The Growth Alignment Framework

The Growth Alignment Framework™

See what is holding the business back before investing in the wrong fix

Growth problems are rarely as simple as they first appear.

A business may believe it needs more marketing when the proposition is unclear. It may be attracting interest but targeting the wrong customer. It may have a strong opportunity but no realistic route to revenue, or a plan that the current team is not ready to deliver.

The Growth Alignment Framework™ gives founders and leadership teams a structured way to examine the business as a whole before deciding what to do next.

It helps establish what is supported by evidence, what is still based on assumption and where the most important gaps sit.

What the framework examines

The review looks across six connected areas.

Strategy and Direction
Is there a clear commercial ambition, and are the immediate priorities understood?

We look at what the business is trying to achieve, the choices being made and whether time, money and attention are being directed towards the right opportunities.

Customer and Market

Is there enough evidence that the problem matters and that the intended customer will pay to solve it?

We review the market need, customer insight, target audience, buying behaviour and the strength of the validation completed so far.

Proposition and Route to Revenue

Is it clear what the business is offering, why someone would choose it and how revenue will be generated?

This includes the proposition, differentiation, pricing logic, commercial model and the route through which customers will discover, evaluate and buy.

People and Delivery

Does the business have the leadership, skills and support needed for the next stage?

We consider the founder or leadership team, internal capability, external partners, decision-making and the practical ability to deliver against the plan.

Process, Technology and Data

Are the systems supporting progress or adding unnecessary complexity?

We assess the processes, tools and information available to the business, including whether leaders have enough visibility to make sound decisions and measure what is working.

Performance and Readiness

Is the business ready for further investment, marketing activity or scale?

We bring the evidence together to assess what is working, where the main risks sit and which conditions need to be in place before the business moves forward.

Built for the stage the business is at

The same questions cannot be applied to every organisation in the same way.

A pre-revenue start-up should not be judged against mature revenue, retention or acquisition data that does not yet exist. The focus at that stage is the quality of the evidence, the credibility of the assumptions and the strength of the plan for testing them.

A business with early traction needs a different review. The priority may be understanding why demand is inconsistent, whether the route to market can be repeated or what needs to change before further investment is made.

For a more established organisation, the framework can be used to identify where complexity, operating structures or disconnected decisions are reducing performance.

What you receive

The review is designed to support a decision, not simply produce a report.

The output will usually include:

  • A clear view of the business’s current position
  • The main constraints, risks and evidence gaps
  • The areas that are strongest and should be protected
  • A prioritised view of what needs to happen next
  • Work that should be deferred until the underlying conditions are stronger
  • Recommendations on the type and level of support required
  • Depending on the scope, this may be presented as a focused assessment, a leadership workshop or a more detailed review with a written set of recommendations.

When the framework is useful

The Growth Alignment Framework™ is particularly useful when:

✓ An idea has potential, but customer demand has not yet been properly tested

✓ Early interest exists, but the route to revenue remains unclear

✓ The business is considering significant marketing or growth investment

✓ Progress has slowed and there is no shared view of the cause

✓ Teams are working hard, but priorities and decisions are becoming disconnected

✓ Leadership needs an independent assessment before making the next commitment

What it is not

The framework is not a pre-written growth plan or a route into unnecessary marketing activity.

It will not assume the answer is a new brand, a campaign, a technology platform or a larger team.

Its purpose is to establish what the evidence supports, where the real issue sits and what the business is genuinely ready to do next.

Start with a clearer view

A Growth Alignment Review begins with a focused discussion about the business, the opportunity being pursued and the decisions that need to be made.

From there, we agree the appropriate scope and whether a more detailed assessment would add value.

“Over the years, I’ve seen the same pattern in very different businesses: people are working hard, but the real issue is often sitting somewhere between functions. The framework was built to make those gaps visible and help leaders decide what genuinely needs attention first.”
